Foundation Programmes

A foundation year is a common practice in many universities that accept foreign students. Its main aim is to prepare them for studying in a new country and adapt to a different culture. The foundation year also acts as a bridge between foreign school curriculum and higher education system in a chosen country.

International Foundation courses are tailored for students from abroad. In some cases, similar courses are also offered to local students, if they have missed some steps on their educational roadmap.

For example, universities in the UK may have one- or two-year study programme for international and local students who want to study at a university, but don’t have all required qualifications, such as A Level or International Baccalaureate. Future students of art, design and architecture attend practical foundation courses to be eligible for admittance. To take a degree in Great Britain, 13 years of compulsory education are required, which differs from other countries. The foundation year can compensate for the difference.

Foundation programmes are usually offered by universities as a gateway to a Bachelor’s degree. Foundation classes attendees are full members of the student community. They have access to all opportunities that a university can offer, such as sporting facilities or a career centre.

It is important to say that University of Buckingham will accept for their 2 years BA degree programmes students successfully completed Foundation programme from recognised college or a university.
